Skye Ju's idea is inspired by D.W Winnicott’s concept of “transitional object”, in which she believes that the art could be the transitional object that reflects artists' subconscious. For her, a significant goal of making art is to achieve a sense of control through self-reflection and healing, which also a process of seeking herself. Most of her ceramic works have functionality, but they were not created to be functional ware. Regardless of what vessels, cups, or mugs she made, the presence of the empty space essentially makes them containers. The functionalities that come with her work are unintentional, but the empty spaces are calculated. She is looking for a void to fill with the disturbances and pressures, for her audiences and herself and people who experience and feel to be put under control.
